Editorial Policy

How we choose, test and rate the online casinos we list — and what it takes for us to remove one.

1. Who we are and who we write for

BestOnlineCasino.is is an independent guide to online casinos for players in Iceland. We are not an operator and we do not accept deposits. Everything we publish is written for adults who are choosing where to play and want to know what they are getting into.

2. Editorial independence and commercial links

Some of our links to operators are commercial: if you open an account through one, we may be paid. That arrangement is fixed in advance and is never tied to the score we give, the position a casino holds in a list, or whether it appears at all. No operator sees a review before it is published, and no operator can request a change to a rating.

3. How we select casinos

  • It must accept players from Iceland and process payments they can actually use.
  • It must hold a licence we can verify on the regulator’s own register.
  • It must publish its bonus terms in full, including wagering requirements and time limits.
  • It must offer a working way to reach support and a way to set limits or self-exclude.

4. How we test

We register, deposit, play and request a withdrawal. We record how long the payout actually takes, which payment methods appear for an Icelandic account, how support answers a real question, and how the site behaves on a phone. Where we cannot complete a step, we say so plainly rather than presenting it as a fault of the operator.

5. How a rating is built

A rating reflects what we measured: payout speed, the real cost of a bonus once wagering is applied, the breadth of the game library, payment options, mobile experience and support quality. A missing piece of information is not an automatic penalty — if a detail cannot be confirmed, it is left out of the score rather than counted against the casino.

6. How we order our lists

Lists are ordered editorially, by how well a casino serves the need the page is about. A casino that pays quickly but has a thin game library can rank first on a payouts page and lower elsewhere. Order is never sold.

7. How we check licences

We confirm a licence on the regulator’s own register, not on the operator’s marketing pages, and we record the date of the check. If a licence lapses or a register entry disappears, the casino comes off our lists until the position is clear.

8. How we keep bonuses current

Bonus terms change often. We verify amounts, wagering requirements and qualifying deposits on the operator’s own site for the Icelandic market. Where an offer is split across several deposits, we publish the first deposit only, with its qualifying threshold, so the figure you read is the figure you can claim.

9. When we remove an operator

We remove a casino when it loses its licence, stops paying players, changes terms retroactively, refuses withdrawals without a stated reason, or markets itself irresponsibly. Removal does not depend on whether there is a commercial relationship in place.

10. How we correct mistakes

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we correct the page and state what changed. We do not quietly delete errors.

11. Responsible gambling

Every page that recommends a casino also points to the tools that let you limit or stop your play. We will not promote an operator that makes those tools hard to find.
